Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D.
became President of the
University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center
on September 2, 2008 and
holds both the Philip
O’Bryan Montgomery, Jr.,
M.D., Distinguished
Presidential Chair in
Academic Administration and
the Doris and Bryan
Wildenthal Distinguished
Chair in Medical Science.
Dr. Podolsky received his
undergraduate degree from
Harvard College summa cum
laude and his medical degree
from Harvard Medical School,
followed by residency
training in Internal
Medicine and a fellowship in
Gastroenterology at
Massachusetts General
Hospital. He joined the
faculty of Harvard Medical
School and the staff of
Massachusetts General
Hospital in 1981; he was
appointed Chief of
Gastroenterology in 1989;
and was named the
Mallinckrodt Professor of
Medicine at Harvard Medical
School in 1998. In addition,
Dr. Podolsky served as the
Chief Academic Officer of
Partners HealthCare System
from 2005-2008.
Dr. Podolsky, a member of
the Institute of Medicine of
the National Academy of
Sciences, is an
internationally recognized
physician scientist who has
advanced knowledge of
underlying mechanisms of
disease and new therapies
for gastrointestinal
disorders, specifically
inflammatory bowel diseases.
He is a past editor-in-chief
of Gastroenterology, and
also a past President of the
American Gastroenterological
Association which honored
him in 2009 with the Julius
Friedenwald Medal, the
highest honor bestowed on a
member of the AGA.
