Danny A. Defenbaugh has been employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for over 32 years. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from American University in Washington, D.C. He has a Masters degree in Forensic Science from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the Harvard University, Program for Senior Managers in Government.
During his tenure with the FBI, his primary investigative responsibilities have centered around violent crimes, i.e. kidnaping, extortion, hijacking and terrorist/bombing matters. He has served in FBI Field Divisions in Chicago, Illinois, Miami, Florida and FBI Headquarters, Washington, D.C., as a Supervisor in the Laboratory/Explosives Unit; in the Inspection Division on the Inspection Staff; and in the Office of Professional Responsibility.
In 1983, Defenbaugh received the Attorney General's Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement. In 1998, Defenbaugh received the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service for his charge in the Oklahoma City bombing investigation. In 1999, he received the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive. He has testified as either an expert witness or investigator over 100 times in federal, state and local courts, to include the U.S. Congress and Military Tribunals.
Defenbaugh is an FBI-certified bomb technician and has traveled to over 25 foreign countries in furtherance of the FBIs interest in thwarting international terrorism. He has supervised over 150 bombing investigations, to include all of the Puerto Rican terrorist group FALN bombings in Chicago. He also supervised the bombing investigations of the three terrorist attacks against American installations in Beirut, Lebanon.
While assigned to the FBI Miami Field Office he supervised the Major Case Squad which encompassed all major violent crimes, international and domestic terrorism and all bombing matters. Thereafter, he was the Supervisor for the South Florida Violent Crimes/Fugitive Task Force.
In January, 1993, Defenbaugh was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Mobile Division. On May 1, 1995, Defenbaugh was promoted to Inspector and named Inspector in Charge of the Oklahoma City bombing investigation both in Oklahoma City and Denver, Colorado. On January 12, 1998, Defenbaugh assumed command of the Dallas Division Field Office of the FBI. |
